About the role

The Post-Doctoral Research Fellow will develop mathematical models of cancer natural history and cancer control interventions, and write research papers from completed effectiveness and cost-effectiveness studies within the program.

The key responsibilities of the role will be to:

  • Provide leadership in the planning and development of research proposals, protocols, and ethics amendments
  • Develop and document mathematical, simulation, and statistical models for epidemiological research
  • Conduct high-quality research leading to research publications in high-impact journals
  • Contribute to the preparation of papers for publication in collaboration with other members of the research team, and to submit high quality scientific reports and peer reviewed papers
  • Produce high quality oral presentations and present at conferences as appropriate
  • Contribute to the preparation of further associated tenders or grants for external funding
  • Establishing and maintaining sound relationships with other investigators and relevant key stakeholders
  • Regular liaison with supervisor to ensure research objectives are met in a timely fashion and project deadlines are adhered to at all times
  • Assist in ensuring effective training and supervision of project staff.

About You

Essential:

  • PhD or equivalent in mathematics, biostatistics, statistics, public health or a related area with a substantial component of numerical analysis, or postgraduate training in biostatistics and epidemiology.
  • Experience in developing simulation models, preferably in a health or medical related field
  • Programming experience using C++, Python or equivalent
  • Excellent written communication and report writing skills
  • Demonstrated conceptual and analytical skills
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary research teams
  • Ability to independently solve problems
  • High level interpersonal and verbal communication skills, including conference presentations
  • Demonstrated interest in health research
  • Willingness and capacity to implement required WHS policies and safe work practice
  • Ability to implement equal opportunity and diversity policies and programs.

Desirable:

  • Experience with statistical analysis software such as R, SAS, or STATA .
  • Substantial experience in statistical analysis of research data, preferably in the health field
  • Experience in managing projects
  • Experience in quantitative health research
  • Experience in the analysis of large data sets
  • Proven publication record in peer-reviewed journals
  • Demonstrated ability in providing leadership in research and protocol development.
